(GW) Dickson McBride oder Chris Dickson ist Musiker mit Leib und Seele!Der aus Belfast stammende Künstler hat zwar schon im Alter von dreizehn Jahren das Gitarre Spielen erlernt, es aber - nach eigener Angabe - nie zu technischen Höchstleistungen auf dem Instrument gebracht, sondern die Gitarre vielmehr als Hilfsmittel betrachtet um Lieder zu schreiben und zu spielen.

“Trotzdem hab ich das Gefühl, mein Gitarrenspiel ständig weiter zu verbessern und wohl auch nie mit diesem Lernprozess aufzuhören” so Dickson in einem unserer Gespräche.

Mit 16 kaufte er sich sein erstes Aufnahmegerät und legte damit den Grundstein für seine Tontechniker- und Produzenten-Laufbahn.
Natürlichkeit und Authentizität stehen bei Dickson ganz oben, wenn es um eine Produktion geht: “Für mich sind kleine Unvollkommenheiten in einer gewissen Weise perfekt, denn schon die kleinste Bewegung eines Fingers kann eine einzigartiges Klangbild erzeugen, das man kein zweites Mal hinbekommt!”
Aufgrund dieser Einstellung ist der jungen Musiker ständig auf der Suche nach neuen, innovativen Arbeitsweisen im Bereich von Produktionstechnik und Arrangement.
Heute ist Dickson selbstständiger Produzent und Tontechniker in Belfast.

Die Frage nach seinem ersten Auftritt lässt den Künstler schmunzeln:
“Mein erster Gig war in einer Bar Namens “the front page” die ihren Namen von den, sich nach, oder auch während, ihrer Arbeitszeit dort tummelnden, Journalisten hat, mit einer Band aus Schulfreunden. Ich war zu jung um mich zu betrinken und zu schlecht um zu spielen… Wir waren schrecklich Der Manager wollte uns rauswerfen, einer meiner Freunde zertrümmerte sein Schlagzeug, ich brüllte den Manager an… Da werd ich wohl nie wieder auftreten *g*”

Einfluss auf ihn und seine Musik hatten allen voran die Beatles. Weiters nennt Dickson Simon and Garfunkle, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Santana, Carol King, und viele mehr.

Einer der Gründe in Second Life aufzutauchen war die Absicht, seine Musik an ungleich mehr Menschen zu bringen, als das im Real Life momentan möglich ist. „Ich liebe den Gedanken vor so vielen Leuten zu spielen, die von überall auf der Welt kommen; bezahlt zu werden ist nur ein Bonus.“

Der zweite, ursprünglich vorrangige Grund ein Second Life zu führen, war die Rotterdam Bar oder besser gesagt der bevorstehende Abriss des historischen Gebäudes in Belfast.
Stiofainx Rau, ein Freund von Dickson führt eine Kampagne zur Erhaltung der Bar an und was ursprünglich als Website begann, hat mittlerweile recht stattliche, dreidimensionale Ausmaße in Form einer Nachbildung des Gebäudes auf der Belfast II Sim in Second Life angenommen.
Momentan finden im Rotterdam Streams in beide Richtungen statt: Live-Acts im RL werden ins SL übertragen und auch umgekehrt.
Für die Zukunft hat sich der Ire allerhand vorgenommen: „Wir werden das virtuelle Belfast mit einigen Sehenswürdigkeiten aus ganz Irland versehen und ich spiele mit dem Gedanken ein Musicians-Resource-Center eröffnen“

Live zu hören gibt es Dickson McBride jeden Sonntag - natürlich - im Rotterdam.

Dickson McBride or Chris Dickson in real life is Musician with heart and soul!

The Artist, that comes from Belfast, Northern Ireland learned to play the guitar, wehen he was 13 years old. He has never been into technical playing, he used the instrument as a tool for writing and playing songs.
„I still view it that way and am of course still learning and will continue like that forever.“

With 16 he bought his first recorder and since then he has been into recording and producing music.
In his productions he makes a point on natural sounds and authencity: „For me imperfections are in a way perfect, because even a slight movement of a fnger could make a different sound that cant be redone later.“
This led him to a path to discover new arrangements and production techniques.
Currently Dickson is working as a freelance music producer and sound engineer in Belfast.

The Question about his first Gig makes him smile:
„My firts gig was in a bar in Belfast called “the front page“ with a band with a few school friends. The Bar was so called, because it was a place, that local reporters hung out after work… and probably during. *lol*
I was too young to be drinking and probably too crap to be playing… We were terrible. At one point the manager pulled the plug and told us to get off stage, my friend smashed his drums up and i was screaming in the managers face. I will never play there again :)“

Influence on him and his music had second to none the beatles. Additionally he named Simon and Garfunkle, Led Zepplelin, Pink Floyd, Santana, Carol King and many more.

One of the reasons to turn up to second life was the intension of playing live gigs and reaching more people with his music, than is possible in real life at times. „I love the idea that i can play to many people round the world and getting paid is a just bonus.“

The other, primary reason to live a second life was the Rotterdam bar or strictly speaking the planned demolition of this historic building in Belfast.

Stiofainx Rau, a friend of Dickson is running a campaign to save the Rotterdam bar from demolision and what started as a website became a three-dimensional reproduction of the bar on the Belfast II Sim in second life.
At the moment there are streams running in the Rotterdam in both directions: Live-acts in RL are streamed into SL and in the opposite way too.
For the future he is part of a plan to recreate the atmoshphere and culture of Belfast, what will include a number of Belfast attractions and also the Arts of the Whole of Ireland. „And down the line I’m going to open a musicians resource center.“

Every Sunday night Dickson McBride runs a live-show – needless to say - at the Rotterdam bar.
